Myocardial Tissue Characterization Technical Foundations: How is it done?

چکیده

Even within the context of MRI, the term “myocardial tissue characterization” could encompass a wide variety of techniques. In this presentation, the focus will be entirely on those methods designed to evaluate myocardium based on magnetic resonance relaxation times T1 (preand post-contrast), T2, and T2*. These relaxation time constants that form the basis for image contrast in many pulse sequences can be sensitive indicators of pathological changes in the myocardium, as they are for most tissues of the body. While the basic concepts behind T1-, T2-, and T2*-weighted imaging of the heart have been in place for a number of years, there has been a recent resurgence of interest in techniques designed to quantify and map myocardial relaxation times on a pixel-by-pixel basis. These quantitative methods have led to improved techniques to evaluate global as well as regional changes in myocardial tissue. This talk will cover the basic techniques utilized for T1and T2-weighted imaging of the heart, as well as more recently described methods for quantitative relaxation time parameter mapping.

Tissue Doppler, Strain and Strain Rate in ischemic heart disease “How I do it”

Echocardiography is the standard method for assessing myocardial function in patients with ischemic heart disease. The acquisition and interpretation of echocardiographic images, however, remains a highly specialized task which often relies entirely on the subjective visual assessment of the reader and requires therefore, particular training and expertise. Myocardial deformation imaging allows ...

The truncation artifact in a skinny patient following myocardial perfusion SPECT

Myocardial perfusion SPECT is one of the most common imaging techniques performed in nuclear medicine departments. To avoid misleading interpretation, it is necessary to address the quality control and technical problems. The truncation artifact occurs when the patient size is large relative to the field of view of the camera, causing false perfusion defects in the LV myocardium, misinterpreted...

Synthesis and Characterization of Porcelain Body Developed from Rice Husk Ash (TECHNICAL NOTE)

For a developing country like Bangladesh, waste management is an important issue. Since it is a small over-populated country , strict government regulations regarding landfills is essential. Expansion of ceramic industries is considered to be one of the potential sectors for the economic growth of Bangladesh. However, raw material cost per unit production is the prime concern for industrialists...

A note on information theoretic characterizations of physical theories

Clifton, Bub, and Halvorson [Foundations of Physics 33, 1561– 1591, (2003)] have recently argued that quantum theory is characterized by its satisfaction of three information-theoretic axioms. However, it is not difficult to construct apparent counterexamples to the CBH characterization theorem. In this paper, we discuss the limits of the characterization theorem, and we provide some technical ...

Advanced Cardiac MR Imaging for Myocardial Characterization and Quantification: T1 Mapping

Magnetic resonance as an imaging modality provides an excellent soft tissue differentiation, which is an ideal choice for cardiac imaging. Cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) allows myocardial tissue characterization, as well as comprehensive evaluation of the structures. Although late gadolinium enhancement after injection of the gadolinium extracellular contrast agent has further extended our ab...
